Goodwill of Greater Detroit accepting donations for newest store in growing list of retail locations
Southfield retail store slated to open later this month
DETROIT (April 2, 2025) – Goodwill of Greater Detroit today announced it is now accepting donations of new and gently used goods at its new Southfield retail location ahead of the store’s grand opening this spring. The new retail store is located at 28901 Greenfield Road.
Goodwill accepts a wide range of donated goods, including adult and children’s clothing, jewelry, shoes, electronic devices, furniture, cookware and bakeware, small kitchen appliances, furniture toys, movies, music, books and much more. The sales generated from these items are reinvested back into the community to fund free personal and professional development programs, equipping individuals with the skills and training needed to gain employment. Ninety-two cents of every dollar spent at a Goodwill of Greater Detroit retail store supports these programs.
“Shopping at a Goodwill of Greater Detroit retail store not only gives used goods new life by keeping them out of landfills – it also empowers metro Detroiters with the skills and resources they need to overcome barriers to employment,” said Jeff Ukrainec, Vice President of Donated Goods Operations for Goodwill of Greater Detroit.
Dan Varner, CEO of Goodwill of Greater Detroit. “By shopping at Goodwill, you’re providing hope and opportunity for those living with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities, mental illness and more.”
Some of the free workforce development programs operated by Goodwill of Greater Detroit include the Detroit Career Center, which offers work-related skills development and resources for those living with intellectual and developmental disability, and the Skilled Trades Academy, which offers hands-on training in careers like welding. Even the retail stores themselves offer job opportunities for individuals with employment barriers.
Goodwill of Greater Detroit most recently opened a new thrift store and donation center in Madison Heights last summer. The organization operates additional retail and donation locations in Canton, Commerce, Dearborn, Livonia, Woodhaven and Ypsilanti.
