Detroit Police Department and Goodwill of Greater Detroit to Host Give For Good Donation Drive
DETROIT (MARCH 12, 2024) – The Detroit Police Department is cracking down on clutter! This spring, the department is teaming up with Goodwill of Greater Detroit to host a city-wide “Give For Good” donation drive every weekend from March 22 to April 14. All metro-Detroit community members are encouraged to drop off their gently used clothing, household items, electronics, toys, books and furniture at one of five designated recreation center locations in Detroit.
Goodwill of Greater Detroit is dedicated to helping metro Detroiters with employment barriers receive the support and training they need to live prosperous, fulfilled lives. Every item that is donated to Goodwill further fuels efforts to create opportunities for metro Detroiters to achieve their dreams of a better life, while also helping to keep items out of landfills. Ninety-two cents of every dollar generated from the sale of donated items helps to provide job training,
social services, job placement, retention services and job opportunities to individuals with employment barriers, including those living with developmental and intellectually disabilities and mental illness.
“The Detroit Police Department is proud to partner with Goodwill of Greater Detroit for this donation drive to benefit Detroiters,” said Chief James E. White. “Through the work of our officers, the support of our partners like Goodwill and help from our community, we can keep making Detroit a safer and more equitable place for all.”
“We are grateful to the Detroit Police Department for hosting and facilitating the donation drive, and for their consistent support of our organization,” said Jeff Ukrainec, vice president of the Donated Goods Retail division of Goodwill of Greater Detroit. “Although we have distinct missions, our organizations share similar values and vision for our community, which makes this a great partnership.”
