A Focus on the Future

When you don’t think you have a future, it’s hard to see a path forward. Sometimes it takes the right person with the right program to help you find your way.

Patrick found himself in trouble with the law. He was sentenced to probation under the condition he went through Goodwill’s Right of Passage Program. He was initially reluctant to go.

“I wasn’t going to do it. My mama had just passed away. I didn’t care,” says Patrick. “I didn’t want to hear anything from anyone. But my Goodwill counselor broke it down for me so that it made sense. He convinced me that it’s all cool here.”

Goodwill helped with his legal fees, and Patrick joined the program and earned his GED as a birthday present to himself.

“Goodwill taught me how to schedule my time and how to write down what I’m going to be doing,” says Patrick.

“It gave me structure.” He has since started his LLC and is an independent contractor.

Patrick is giving back, too. He’s now involved with Green Works and helping train other people. “It’s like a family. It’s not all about me,” says Patrick. “I feel comfortable. People understand me.”

With his own company and multiple other passions, Patrick’s future is on the right track.
