Whether you want to work at special events or from the comfort of your own home, there are several ways you can help local people become trained, trusted and ready to work.

Why volunteer with us?

Goodwill Detroit volunteer opportunities present you with unique working environments to help train and improve your current skills — or presents a chance to gain new ones! Volunteering in our retail stores allow you to make  your own schedule, creating flexible hours to complete your community service requirements or fit in some volunteer time after work or school. We hope that after your experience volunteering with us, you can share your skills and stories with others proudly, knowing that you are helping to improve the Metro Detroit community by supporting Goodwill Detroit’s efforts to help local Detroiters earn jobs.

Donated Goods

Each one of our stores in Dearborn, Canton, Commerce, Woodhaven, Livonia and Ypsilanti are in need of volunteers.  The stores are open during the weekends and in the evenings, so this opportunity is perfect for anyone looking to volunteer before or after work hours. Duties could include tasks such stocking shelves, moving furniture, sorting clothing items and/or shoes, scanning books, etc.

Special Events

Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit three special annual events throughout the calendar year that may require extra hands and minds. Some events could use volunteer assistance in the setup, operations and/or clean-up processes. Special event dates and details can be found under our News and Events section. No previous event experience is required.

Even if you can’t be here physically, you can still help local people overcome employment challenges from wherever you are! Goodwill Detroit is active on a number of social media platforms, including TwitterFacebook, and Instagram. Help us spread the word about our mission, our programs, or even your experience with us. Share our message with your own networks so that together, we can help put Metro Detroiters to work!
