Jobs Employment and Training (JET) Macomb County

In Macomb County Goodwill provides Job Readiness Training & Job Search assistance services to person receiving Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) and Friend of the Court referrals. This program accepts persons referred by the Macomb County Family Independence Agency and Friend of the Court participants that reside in Macomb County.

Each participant attends Job Readiness Training. This two-week training provides participants the opportunity to prepare their skills to successfully secure and maintain employment.

In addition to the Job Readiness Training, participants are required to engage in active job search activities using the Resource Center that provides the tools and technology to search for potential employment opportunities. Participants obtain Job Placement assistance and job leads. Each participant’s interests, aptitudes and skills are matched with the employer’s job requirements.

To assist with job retention, the Service Center provides Employment Follow-up/Retention Services. Participants are provided the guidance, supports and resources necessary to address barriers or concerns that may impact the participant’s job retention.

JET coordinators provide Supportive Services to participants. Services include referrals for such services as child care, medical and mental health assistance, and facilitating the participants’ obtaining financial assistance for such items as mileage, car repair, auto insurance, work-related clothing and other work-related items.

Participants who require additional training, such as English as a Second Language (ESL), General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preparation, basic/remedial education, or occupational skills, are referred to or enrolled with other community agencies and institutions.

Participants that are not initially successful in obtaining employment or enrolling in career training may participate in community services, volunteering with a non-profit to gain valuable work experience before returning to their job search activities.  The goal is program is to assist participants to achieve employment and at sufficient wage and hours to result in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Food Stamp closure.

Admission Requirements

Participants must be:

  • A resident of Macomb County
  • Referred by the Family Independence Agency or Friend of the Court
  • In compliance with State eligibility requirements for Employment & Training Services
