Adult Education Center

The Detroit Workforce Development Department Adult Education Center located within the One Stop Career Service Center provides individuals with classroom and one-on-one instruction in academic skill upgrade and GED preparation. Students are supported to increase basic reading, writing, speaking and math skills to enhance employability and successfully transfer into the workplace, training or post-secondary education.

Teachers combine classroom instruction with workshops, guest speakers and computer aided educational programs. Tutors are available for those students needing a more individualized instruction or for additional assistance.

All appropriate tools, equipment and supplies are made available to students at no cost.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 18 years old or older
  • Low-income
  • Resident of the City of Detroit (must show proof)
  • Legal resident
  • Selective Service registered (men only)
  • Have not received a H.S. Diploma or GED or have received diploma and/or GED and need to improve literacy skills in order to gain employment or entry into training
