Adults with Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness
Participants in these programs gain experience and
skills that will ultimately lead to meaningful employment.
The program provides a continuum of services including, work
skills training, community inclusion skill building, job
development, job coaching, and job retention. Services are
designed to assist people with disabilities and other
barriers to employment in becoming more independent,
self-supporting citizens. These programs also provide
initial and ongoing supports in assisting individuals obtain
and maintain paid employment.
There are a variety of activity choices within the programs
that include, prevocational classes, paid work experiences,
volunteer opportunities, community-based activities, and
supported employment. Staff is available to aid participants
with determining their interests, abilities, and individual
needs. Levels of support are based on each person’s unique
abilities.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
• Adult Resident of Wayne County (18 years or older)
• A diagnosis of a developmental disability or chronic
mental illness
• Individuals with mental illness are required to be under
the care of a psychiatrist and medication compliant if
applicable
• Complete independence with self care
• Basic verbal, manual, or assisted communication skills
• Behavior that does not require continual or repeated
periods of separation from others, physical intervention, or
one-to-one supervision.
• A willingness and interest in achieving goals and
objectives leading to community employment.
