Career Guidance and Support
Case Management
Goodwill Industries provides guidance and support to assist
participants to achieve self-sufficiency. Counseling is
provided to address situational barriers and referrals are
made to other community agencies for additional necessary
services. Supportive services to participants may include
direction and referrals for such services as childcare,
medical and mental health assistance. In addition, Goodwill
facilitates the activities to assist the participant to
address social and work-related needs.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy assists individuals to develop,
improve or restore the highest possible level of
self-sufficiency. Those limited by physical injury or mental
illness, developmental or learning disability or an adverse
environmental condition can benefit from this service
through education, evaluation, consultation and follow-up.
Goodwill’s Occupational Therapy staff help pave the road to
independence.
Persons who can benefit from occupational therapy include:
• People with work-related injuries in vocational settings
• People with barriers resulting in difficulty securing or
sustaining competitive employment
• People who need adaptations or accommodations within the
vocational setting
• Organizations wanting to provide rehabilitation services
to their members
Vocational Evaluation & Counseling
A Facility-Based Assessment is a comprehensive vocational
assessment that lasts 4 weeks and includes a 2-3 week
situational assessment in the clerical or industrial center.
A final report is provided listing the individual's
vocational interests, strengths and limitations, need for
accommodations and support, and career planning
recommendations. Assessments include:
• Identification of vocational aptitudes and academic
abilities
• Vocational exploration to identify job interests
• Work sampling to assess skills
• Situation assessment to determine work habits and
behaviors
A Community Based Assessment is a vocational assessment that
lasts 5 weeks and includes a 4 week situational assessment
at a real community job setting. A final report is provided
listing the individual's vocational skills, strengths and
limitations, work habits and need for accommodation and
support at the assigned work site.
A One-Day Vocational Assessment assists in determining
current educational levels for training program entry and
career goal development. Assessments include:
Academic Assessment
• Academic grade levels in math, vocabulary, and reading
comprehension
• Aptitude percentile rankings in verbal reasoning,
mechanical reasoning, and spelling
• Career interest inventories
Clerical Assessment
• Academic grade levels in math, vocabulary, and reading
comprehension
• Clerical aptitude test, 10-key numeric test and typing
speed test
Clerical assessment is a prerequisite for entry into
Goodwill Business Computer Training.
Job Coaching
Trainees are provided individualized job training at the
actual work site. This service is designed to assist
individuals whose learning style may require more intensive
one-on-one training. Job coaching can benefit the individual
in the following ways:
• Training on specific job skills and expected work
behaviors
• Supervisors and co-workers are provided direction to
effectively work with the individual
• Assistance in identifying and resolving problems
• Provides a greater assurance of job success
